My Lab Setup – Hardware

Recently I have built a new lab. I was doing lots of research and I was looking for something which is energy efficient and quite, so I can keep it powered on all the time and at the same time powerful enough to keep running 20-25 VMs, including full stack of vSphere, vRA, NSX-T and PKS.

I was looking for a CPU which is at least 8 Core and from Intel. I wanted also as much as possible memory. And this is what I ended up with:

Motherboard: Supermicro X11SPA-TF

CPU: Intel Xeon Silver 4210

Memory: 6 x 32GB Samsung ECC R 1.2V DDR4 2666

HDD: 2x 2TB Intel 660p M.2, 1x 1TB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus

Power supply: Corsair RM550x

Case: be quiet! Silent Base 801

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH U14s DX 3647

USB Stick: 32GB Kingston (ESXi Installation)
